One hundred and thirty years ago, builders buried a Victorian coach house in Hastings, UK, and built my house on top of it. The coach house was part of the courtyard of The Royal Swan Hotel, the largest and most prestigious hotel on the south coast of England. The hotel welcomed notable guests, including the Duke of Wellington and the artist J.M.W. Turner.
A few months after moving to Hastings, I demolished an old outside toilet at the back of my house and removed the cement floor, exposing a 4-meter drop into the remains of the coach house.
In hindsight, I wish we had removed the entire terrace to create a huge sunken garden.
What would you do with this space?
Paid subscribers can visit the coach house over the summer. The funds will be used for a 3D scan of the building, allowing those who can't visit to explore it virtually.

I am a subscriber. Hastings born & bred. I really hope to be able to visit this summer as I've been following you with interest for some time. I love that you are rediscovering the lost history of Hastings.
I don't know what I'd do with the space, but it's a fascinating story!
